Examinations are an important part of school life, which happen throughout the school year.

Examinations

Following consultation, Ofqual and JCQ have announced a series of adaptations for the summer 2022 examinations, which are summarised below.

  • students taking GCSEs in English literature, history and geography will not need to cover the usual range of content in the exams – the exam boards have published information on their websites on how this will work for each of their specifications in these subjects.
  • students taking GCSEs in all other subjects will be given advance information about the focus of the content of the exams to support their revision
  • students taking AS and A levels will be given advance information about the focus of the content of the exams to support their revision
  • students taking GCSE mathematics will be given in their exams copies of formulae they would in other years have to memorise
  • students taking GCSE physics and combined science will be given in their exams a sheet covering all the equations they might need to apply in the exams

The advance information for GCSE and AS and A levels will be published no later than 7 February 2022.

If you have any queries regarding the summer results or the autumn exam entries please do not hesitate to email our Examinations Officer. Please send a message with a contact number and we will contact you at the earliest opportunity to discuss any queries.

Collection of Certificates

  • The Statement of Results, which each student receives on results day, is only provisional and may not be accepted by colleges and some employers. Exam certificates are the only official proof of results – these are sent to the school during the Autumn Term and presented to students on Speech Day. If a student does not return to the Sixth Form, or does not attend Speech Day, certificates may then be collected from school. A friend or relative can collect them on behalf of a student, but must bring a letter of authority, signed by the student.

Nationally, schools are judged against a set of criteria, which are all available on the Department for Education (DfE) School Performance Tables. An overview of our performance against these criteria in 2018-19 is given below.

Key Stage 4 (2018-19)

  • Progress 8 score: 0.24 (“Above average”)
  • Attainment 8 score: 53.9 points (England average: 46.7 points)
  • 56% of students achieved a strong pass (9 – 5) in English and mathematics (England average: 43%)
  • English Baccalaureate (EBacc) Average Point Score: 4.68 (England average: 4.07)
  • 99% of students have continued in education or training, or have moved on to employment in the year after the end of Key Stage 4 (England average: 94%)

Key Stage 5 (2018-19)

  • Progress: 0.15 (“Above average”)
  • Attainment (Attainment (A Level average result): C+ 34.21 points (England average: C+ 34.01 points)
  • Attainment (Tech Level average result): Distinction 33.64 points (England average: Merit+ 28.64 points)
  • English and maths progress (such as GCSE retakes): Data suppressed to protect individual privacy
  • Retention (A Level percentage of students completing their main study programme): 90.3% (England average: 91.3%)
  • Retention (Tech level percentage of students completing their main study programme): 100% (England average: 87.9%)
  • Destinations (2017 leavers): 79% of students stayed in education or went into employment or an apprenticeship
